Every person acquainted with cryptocurrencies knows the first digital currency ever created – Bitcoin. It was released as open-source software on 9 January 2009. After 7 years of existence it is still occupying the first place among cryptocurrencies. Over the years Bitcoin has experienced ups and downs – from significant success to total fail (Mt.Gox case). After Bitcoin gained enough experience, it is time for its users to enjoy larger stability and security. Although lots of competitors have entered the market, Bitcoin is still number one. To be more picturesque the total value of bitcoins has been estimated to $ 5 billion. Nowadays bitcoins are used for money transfers, for purchases, for investments.
Despite its success one question is still teasing the curiosity of Bitcoin’s users – Who has created the world’s first cryptocurrency? Of coures, we all know the name, actually the pseudonym, of this person – Satoshi Nakamoto. But we are not sure whether it comes to a man or woman, to an European or American etc.
For the first time Wired tried to reveal a part of the truth, or according to them – the whole truth. Their investigation leads to Dr. Craig Steven Wright (an Australian computer scientist and businesman). As Wired said: “…two possibilities outweigh all others: Either Wright invented bitcoin, or he’s a brilliant hoaxer who very badly wants us to believe he did.”
Now, the Wired’s main findings are brought to light:
- Wright announced in his blog that he had an idea to relase a “cryptocurrency paper”. That happened long before 2009 – the year of Bitcoin’s introduction.
- Another message from the same blog required from readers who want to communicate with Wright to use a PGP public key. It turns out, that this key is linked do Satoshi Nakamoto. According to wikipedia PGP “is an encryption program that provides cryptographyc privacy and authentication for data communication.” This encryption software was associated with an e-mail address which is very simillar to the address that was used by Nakamoto for sending bitcoin to a cryptography mailing list.
- The last trace refers again to a post datet on 10. January 2009, just a day after official launch of Bitcoin. Here is what was written: “The Beta of Bitcoin is live tomorrow. This is decentralized… We try until it works. ” Reading this evidence do not forget that Craig Wright lives in Eastern Australia and there is time difference and the message was actually posted before Bitcoin’s introduction.
All this information could lead us to the conclusion that Dr. Craig Steven Wright is the actual creator of Bitcoin. But we are not 100% sure this is true. Internet is an area, where lots of manipulations are more than possible. So, we remain with a step closer to the truth but still far
