John McAfee has been one of the most vocal proponents of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. Though a controversial figure, McAfee has always supported anonymous and privacy-oriented projects. He even once gained popularity when he speculated the value of Bitcoin would reach $1 million by 2020.

However, he managed to make the news once again. John left his Twitter account to his staff to manage. The reason? McAfee himself hinted that the US government may be after him, though he did not disclose further details.

When it comes to cryptocurrency, McAfee undoubtedly had created a giant community of followers. His influence was particularly strong back in the golden days of crypto – November and December 2017. Back then a single tweet from John McAfee could make or break any given digital asset. Indeed, he had the practice of publishing “coin of the day” tweets, which sparked significant daily growth. Needless to say, community members enjoyed the pumping.

In recent times, McAfee claimed he was to reveal the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto but only to shy away from his promise. He cited possible law prosecutions and other engagements. Add the fact that he runs a campaign for the upcoming 2020 presidential elections and you’ll see for yourself how of a controversial figure McAfee is.

Of course, several cryptocurrency projects seized the opportunity and paid tremendous fees to see McAfee promoting their initial coin offerings. McAfee is extremely critical of the US government and some of his tweets were seen as a preparation of going dark on social media.

Speaking of his crypto views, McAfee is a vocal advocate of privacy and animosity, he further stands again regulation.
