Neurolink Corp., a company co-founded by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has reportedly raised $27 million to launch a technology that connects human brains with computers.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission has confirmed that the start-up has already received $27 million in funding, as Bloomberg (bloomberg.com) and Business Insider (businessinsider.com) reported recently.
Musk stated on Twitter that Neurolink isn`t seeking outside investors. A spokesman refused to answer questions about who funded the company, as Bloomberg wrote in their report.
Musk is well-known as the CEO of Tesla Inc., comany producing elecric vehicles and components, and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. that designs and manufactures rockets and space crafts. He is also associated with other projects like Hyperloop, a futuristic form of tube-based transportation.
Neurolink was launched last summer to connect the human brain with computers by creating micron-sized devices to be implaneted into the brain, as Business Insider explained. Musk has reportedly described the need to create a “neural lace”device that is able to supercharge the human brain. According to him, this would help humans combat the threat of artificially intelligent super-computers, as the article stated.
“Neuralink is developing ultra high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers.”, as Neurolink`s official website (https://www.neuralink.com/) made clear.
“We are looking for exceptional engineers and scientists. No neuroscience experience is required: talent and drive matter far more. We expect most of our team to come from other areas and industries.”, as the company added.
Neurolink is currently offering 8 open positions for exceptionally talanted engineers and scientists who wish to contribute to the project.
