Has this blockchain hype finally been peaked?

ConsenSys, a Brooklyn based group of Ethereum coders, has felicitated the graduates of its first blockchain developer program. The event took place in the city of Dubai, which mentions ConsenSys as its official blockchain advisor.

This program is administered by the ConsenSys Academy. Recently, there has been a spurt in global demand for blockchain developers. ConsenSys Academy is among the first organisations to offer a curriculum focused solely on blockchain technology. ConsenSys announced the felicitation of the graduates on Sunday.
The program structure consists of an online course spanning 8 weeks. After that, there is a 3 day offline event where course participants get the opportunity of working with Ethereum developers on actual projects. This first edition of the program witnessed around 1,300 applications from 96 countries. However, only 10% could be selected for the course. Finally, a total of 58 students were felicitated.
A digital identification app called uPort was used to release certificates to graduates. These certificates were issued as Eth-Certs on the public Ethereum blockchain.
About the event, Joseph Lubin, founder at ConsenSys, said, “It is very rewarding to see the first cohort of blockchain software engineers graduate and especially exciting to witness them awarded their Ethereum blockchain-based graduation certificates. These EthCerts will be housed in each graduate’s personal uPort IDs.”
The City of Dubai has expressed an intention to operationalise all government dealings and records on a blockchain by the year 2020. If it is able to do so, it may become the first blockchain city of the world. Some government initiatives like the Smart Dubai initiative already use the blockchain technology. Smart Dubai initiative even endorses its use as can be seen by its support for ConsenSys’s felicitation ceremony.
ConsenSys is an active contributor to the government’s efforts especially the Smart Dubai initiative. It became the official blockchain advisor to the city earlier this year, Now, its Dubai office has become its second largest establishment after Brooklyn.
Director-general of the Smart Dubai initiative Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr said at the event that: “Hosting this first graduating class here in Dubai is testament to the emirate’s status as a leader in future technologies. ConsenSys Academy’s initiative to address the global shortage in Blockchain developers resonates with our objectives at Smart Dubai.”
