Barclaycard announces the introduction of a contactless system that enables customers to pay by card or phone when buying ice-cream from a van.

The traditional cash-ony ice-cream vans are now receiving a contactless payments system introduced by Barclaycard, the UK, as finextra.com wrote in a recent report.

“I am always looking for innovative ways to improve my business and anything that allows me to serve double the number of happy customers and reduce the queuing time is a ‘win’ for me.” commented Vince Bianco, an owner and ice-cream vendor, One Coronetto as quoted by the article.

According to Barclays research 65% of Brits will make an ice-creram purchase over the summer. They will have to wait an average of nearly eight minutes for their treats, as the report noted.

With the contactless system, an upgraded ice-cream van will have to seperate queus, one of them enabling customers to buy with a tape before filling their own cones.

“Barclays is the first UK bank to launch contactless technology for small business customers. We believe this secure innovation will increase choice and convenience when making debit card payments.”, as the bank stated on their official website.

The bank has also published a video showing the trial of contactless self-serve ice-cream van: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za7VK9M1U7M.
