Asus, a leading hardware maker, has announced the launch of new graphics cards (GPUs). The cards are to be intended for the cryptocurrency minging markert.
Asus Mining RX 470 and Asus Mining P106 are designed to handle the energy and heat intensive process of mining.
“ASUS Mining RX 470 is designed for coin mining with high-efficiency components – delivering maximum hash-rate production at minimum cost.”, as the company wrote on their website.
It is speculated that the product release comes as a response to the growing interest in mining ethereum, as coindesk.com wrote in a recent article.
However, how are cryptocurrencies being mined? It is a process that involves new transaction blocks being added to the distributed network. At the same time, new blockchain tokens are being introduced to the system and awarded to the miner as a compensation. The miner gains a profit when the cost of electricity and the operation itself is lower that the revenue that comes from the tokens.
The jump in digital currency prices this year is reportedly driving demand for graphic cards. as Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) told CNBC (cnbc.com).
Computer hardware retailers like Newegg, Best Buy and Amazon are sold out of most AMD RX 570 and RX 580 graphics card models, as the publication added.
The RX 470 will be available worldwide, while the Mining P106 card will be intended for the Chinese and Eastern European markets only, as Asus stated.
