The organization wants to present “a uniform voice”, while asking for an open environment for the development of blockchain applications.
Some start-ups have gathered together to form a public advocacy group for blockchain technology in Germany.
The Blockchain Bundesverband involves members like Jolocom, Slock.it, IOTA and other start-ups based in Germany. The organization wants to present “a uniform voice”, while asking for an open environment for the development of blockchain applications.
Blockchain Bundesverband has a separate political panel that features representatives from the country`s political parties. Some of the participants come from Germany`s two major parties, the CDU and the SPD, namely Thomas Jarzombek and Jens Zimmermann. There are also representatives from Die Linke, Die Grünen and FDP.
The organization is establishing itself ahead of the federal elections that are to be held across the country in late September.
“The potential of blockchain technology can only develop when citizens, as well as private and public institutions, connect with the technology and the technology itself is recognized by law and society.”, as the group wrote.
In statements quoted by coidesk.com, the start-ups taking part in the advocacy organization said that Germany should play a role in advancing the implementation of the technology.
More specifically, they reportedly made clear that some possible applications of the technology should be seen in the areas of record keeping, data management, and “identity services and electronic signatures”.
It is to be seen whether the advocacy group`s calls will be heard by the government.12
